There are many amazing runs and activities to participate in and around the country. In Southern California, we are blessed with some awesome locations. From the ocean to the mountains., we have events that include Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, and beach locations.
A spectacular setting for an event is Vasquez Rocks. Due to its unique rock formations, this is a popular site for filming movies and TV Shows. Star Trek, the Flintstones, Planet of the Apes and more have been filmed here.
It was a blast to participate in the inaugural SPACEROCK Trail Race held at Vasquez Rocks. This was a challenging event, but very rewarding. Trail races by nature feature unique terrain…and hills are a part of that. Just when I thought I was done with the hills, there was another hill. That’s okay…hills make me stronger.
I wanted to get there early and experience it all. The morning was overcast, so there was not a typical sunrise. It was great to get there before dawn though, in the dark, to take in Sunday morning at this unique location.
Many of my posts talk about Team Runners Lane, and the impact on this group has had on my life. This commentary also includes Team RL, but from a little different perspective. There is more to a running group…or any group of like-minded people, than the activity that joins them together.
It may come a shock, but through running, a few folks have been injured. I went through it recently with my torn calf. At the SPACEROCK event, some who couldn’t run volunteered. In our community, Team Runners Lane is involved with many events…and it’s a blessing to be a part of it. Many from our group participated in SPACEROCK and we had a great time!
New Global Adventures did an awesome job producing this event. There were challenges that ranged from creating a race in this iconic location that is overseen by LA County, to facilitating parking and shuttle busses. They also produce other local events and at spectacular locations in China. It’s clear they know how to do things right.
There was a sense of accomplishment in completing this race…and it’s nice to be a part of a first time event. The sense of community that I am blessed to have continues to motivate me. Next up for me is the Santa Clarita Half Marathon. Team Runners Lane will be out in force at this race. It will be challenging, but fun!
