My personal journey started with the inaugural Wings for Life World Run in 2014. Starting at 3:00 AM in California, I went to just support my wife. I was thinking this was nuts. Don't old people people say, nothing good happens at 3:00 in the morning? In this case, something REALLY GOOD happens? The energy was inspirational and I've come to love the Wings for Life World Run.
Seeing what was happening and learning that 100% of the funds from this event go to spinal cord research I signed up and this became my first “formal” run. At this point, I was just starting to do some running and hanging out with with a group that is encouraging to people of all fitness levels. It was awesome to be a part of this event!
Being a cripple for most of my life, I related to the struggles so many people have to live with daily. The Wings for Life tagline is: “Running for Those Who Can’t”. I ran…which for me is not any faster than walking…with people in wheelchairs and afflictions of all types. This inspirational event changed my life.
The Team Runners Lane Family has been a big part of motivating me to keep moving. My vision for SuccessFit4Life! is to create this type of community around the country. We all have the opportunity to make a difference in other people lives!
